Resourceful Intelligence is Park Associati’s contribution to the 19th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, developed in collaboration with Accurat and the Politecnico di Milano. The project explores how architecture can shift from extracting virgin resources towards reusing and transforming materials already embedded in the built environment. Accurat’s contribution focuses on making this idea visible through data, introducing the concept of urban mining: treating the existing city as a vast material deposit, where buildings become potential sources of resources for future construction. Behind the installation’s clinker wall, a dynamic video projection visualizes ongoing research into Milan’s building stock. Based on studies by Gabriele Masera’s team at the Politecnico di Milano, the visualization maps the spatial distribution of potentially reusable materials across the city. Rather than depicting Milan simply as a collection of buildings, the project reveals a hidden layer of its urban fabric: the materials already present within it and their potential to circulate through future projects. The dynamic visualization communicates the scale and complexity of this material network, turning research data into an accessible visual experience. Through data visualization, urban mining and architectural research, Accurat reframes the city as a circular ecosystem and demonstrates how data can help identify new resources without extracting them from elsewhere.

I helped bring these ideas to motion through a large scale video installation collaborating directly with Accurat, blending documentary footage and immersive data visualizations. The piece includes a research-based map of reclaimable materials in Milan and highlights urban mining’s potential to reshape the construction industry. After the exhibition, all materials will return to their original sites for reuse.
